Sometimes it‘s really hard to do workouts and maintain motivation. But there is one solution which can replace everything completely. However it‘s simple to name it but hard to do. Worth trying, though. Turning exercises into a habit helps to do it constantly. It’s like teeth cleaning (we don‘t need additional motivation), we just do it. It’s very similar to sport. If you start doing it constantly, one day it turns into a habit. Then everything is easier.
So many times I heard and saw how people wait for motivation and then stop exercising because it never comes to them. I was the same way. I started many times and quit many times too. We all know this problem that motivation comes and goes. But the secret how to do workouts constantly does exist. And this secret is simple: we need to turn exercising into a habit.
So how to do it?
I have written about it before so many times. I think planning helps a lot in our fitness journey. If you plan which days and hours you are going to work out then it‘s much easier to do your workouts constantly. Another important thing is to prepare clothes, water and equipment which you might need so you don‘t have to leave all things for the last minute. Because if you leave everything for the last minute there is a big chance to miss a workout altogether. The very first thing you should do in the agenda is to plan your workouts and only later other projects. That way you don‘t miss your workouts. So try to plan ahead and make your workouts easier.
Sometimes we can hear a lot of excuses in our head. It‘s a very normal thing. What is more important is not to give in to those thoughts. Because those thoughts are our only obstacle. If you feel that you are debating with yourself in your mind just stop it and push yourself to do a workout. If you know that when thoughts are trying to stop you is a normal process then you can control it.
Find easy ways
What does it mean? When you do what you like it‘s much easier. Find ways and activities which you really love and it can help you work out simpler. For example for some people it‘s easier to workout with others (with friends or in a group session), for others it‘s easier to work out alone (at home or in a gym), etc. You need to find ways in which you can feel more powerful and self-confident. It could help you concentrate and do workouts constantly.
Online you can watch a lot of great videos, photos or read really great texts about fitness and other people experience. I get most inspiration from people who share their experience, talk about problems they face and how they achieve goals. I find it very useful. When you feel that you are not alone and that others are also pursuing the same goals it‘s much easier. You always have a choice what to watch and read. So choose the information which really inspires you and helps to do workouts constantly.
I think these 4 things can really help to turn exercise into a habit. It worked for me. There were days when it was really hard to get started but now I cannot imagine my week without physical activity. It‘s just a habit which gives me a lot of benefits. The secret is simple and everyone can use it. Of course, efforts need to be made but worth it.
What works best for you?
